Matryoshka lucky dolls

Matryoshka dolls, who doesn't know them? Those little dolls, ranging in size from large to small. We have them on cards, but also lovely in wood. We have various colors of wooden lucky dolls available in our shop. We also have a number of specially designed matryoshka dolls!

Meaning of the matryoshka lucky dolls

The Matryoshka doll's meaning: it is originally a hollow wooden doll that can hold several smaller dolls . Stacking the smaller Matryoshka dolls inside the larger mother doll is considered a symbol of fertility and eternity. Of course, there are various theories about the Matryoshka's origins.

The word Matryoshka is said to derive from Latin from Matrona, which means "mother" or "respected lady." Another theory is that the name Matryoshka comes from the Russian word Matryoshka, which is a pet name for Matryona, a peasant woman. The origin of the Matryoshka lies with an artist who made a lucky doll of his neighbor, a peasant woman.

But a babushka in Russia is also said to be an old woman wearing a long coat and headscarf. She would sell things on the street to earn her pension. The last theory we could find claims that the name originated in Japan and was brought to Russia by a merchant in the late 19th century.

Is it matryoshka, matroeska or babushka?

Opinions differ on this matter; some write it as "lucky doll matryoshka" (matroesjka lucky dolls), while others write it as "matroesjka lucky dolls." In Russian, it's written as матрёшка.

So when people talk about a babushka lucky doll or where to buy a babushka doll, they're talking about a grandma lucky doll, because babushka means grandmother. So they're two different lucky dolls!
